چکیده

Intraperitoneal administration of the synthetic octapeptide of cholecystokinin, but not of secretin, produced rapid, large, dose-related, transient, and behaviorally specific inhibitions of solid and liquid food intake at test meals in rats without evidence of side effects or illness. Cholecystokinin may play an inhibitory role in the short-term control of feeding behavior. [The SCI indicates that this paper has been cited in more than 560 publications.]

C-terminal octapeptide of cholecystokinin decreases food intake in man.

In comparison with a saline infusion, the infusion of the C-terminal octapeptide of cholecystokinin (4 ng/kg/min) decreased food intake by an average of 122 g in a group of 12 lean men without objective evidence of untoward side effects. Shapes of the cumulative intake curves under the two conditions were similar, but subjects ate less and stopped eating sooner when receiving octapeptide than w...

Effect of cholecystokinin octapeptide on food intake in pigs.

Considerable interest has been aroused by the suggestion that the gut hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) is released during feeding and then acts as a satiety signal (Gibbs et al. 1973). Many studies, in species ranging from the mouse to man, have shown that peripheral administration of CCK, or its octapeptide, will reduce food intake. However, inhibition of feeding could be produced via a satiety s...

Cholecystokinin and satiety in rats and rhesus monkeys.

When ingested food does not accumulate in the stomach or enter the small intestine, rats do not stop eating. Small amounts of food placed in the small intestine or intraperitoneal injections of the intestinal hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) elicit the full behavioral display of satiety in these sham-feeding rats. In rhesus monkeys, intravenous infusions of CCK produce large, dose-related reductio...

Satiety effects of a physiological dose of cholecystokinin in humans.

Cholecystokinin 33 (CCK) was infused intravenously to eight healthy obese women and 10 healthy lean women of the same age, in doses that elicited plasma cholecystokinin concentrations in the physiological range. The effect of these infusions after a standardised banana 'shake' (preload) on food intake and satiety signals was compared with the effect of saline infusions in the same subjects. For...
